Member of the Week: Sovereign Harbour Residents' Association

Each issue, we want to highlight the work of one of our amazing range of members across Wealden, Eastbourne and the Lewes District. This week it is the turn of Sovereign Harbour Residents’ Association.

Sovereign Harbour Residents’ Association (SHRA) was established in 2000 to consolidate and represent the views of the entire Harbour community. Sovereign Harbour residents and householders have an essential part to play in ensuring the continuing success of our community, through appropriate growth, for the benefit of fellow householders and marina visitors alike. SHRA exists to give homeowners and residents a louder and coordinated voice.

Charity Day

Please join Ashley Gardens Care Home & St Andrews Church on Saturday, 26 July 2014 for a fun packed day with BBQs, cream teas, events and attractions including the 20th Annual Family Fun Dog Show, bouncy castle, table top sale, charity stalls, raffle, tombola, book stalls, cake stalls, pony rides, and lots more! The event will take place at Ashley Gardens Care Home and The Archery Recreation Ground, Willoughby Crescent, Eastbourne BN22 8RA and will have an official opening by the Deputy Mayor of Eastbourne at 1:00 pm (dog show registrations at 12:00 noon).  Admission is free of charge and everyone is welcome. Heathfield Hard of Hearing Support Group

The next meeting of the Heathfield Hard of Hearing Support Group will be held on Monday, 14 July 2014 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at the Red Cross Centre, Streatfield Road, Heathfield TN21 8LA. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other hard of hearing people and to make new friends in a relaxed and welcoming environment and to learn from their personal experience of living with hearing loss. It’s also an ideal opportunity to learn some useful communication skills that will help to reduce the feeling of isolation. Free refreshments and raffle. All welcome so put a note in your diary. Mobile Library and Mobile Office Consultation

East Sussex County Council is consulting on proposed changes to the Mobile Library and Mobile Office to understand the impact they will have on customers so that alternative means of access to library services can be provided.

The Future of Your Services

Eastbourne Borough Council is working on an ambitious programme of change across the council that will enhance services to residents and local businesses and deliver savings. Please contribute your views to help the Council make better changes for residents and local businesses.

Meals in the Community Service

Deadline for responses: 16 September 2014
A public consultation is being conducted on proposals for East Sussex County Council’s Meals in the Community service, which, if approved, will affect around 500 older people in East Sussex who currently receive meals from the contracted provider, Apetito. Please read the proposals and make comment online.

Sussex Community Foundation Grants – Round 2

Deadline for applications: 11 July 2014
Sussex Community Foundation awards grants to charities and community groups in Sussex and manages a range of grants on behalf of various Sussex donors, each of whom has their own priorities and criteria. Most grants are between £1,000 and £5,000 and they are particularly interested in supporting smaller community groups.

Uckfield Town Council Grants

Deadline for applications: 20 August 2014
Uckfield Town Council Grants for 2015/16 are now available online or by requesting an application pack from the Town Clerk on 01825 762774.

Heart Research UK Healthy Heart Grants

Deadline for applications: 31 August 2014
Are you interested in promoting heart health in your community? Does your organisation have a project in mind that could get a particular group into heart healthy habits? Heart Research UK Healthy Heart Grants are available for new, original and innovative projects hat actively promote heart health and help to prevent or reduce the risk of heart disease in specific groups or communities. The small grant is up to £5,000 and the larger is up to £10,000.

Inter Faith Youth Trust Small Grants Programme

Deadline for applications: 31 August 2014
Grants of between £200 and £500 are awarded for proposals for inter faith activities which increase understanding by children and young people aged between 11-25 years from Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and other faiths and those of no formal faith in understanding and co-operation. Projects should take place during Inter Faith Week (16-22 November 2014).

Blatchington Court Trust Annual Awards

Deadline for applications: 6 September 2014
Blatchington Court Trust primarily supports visually impaired individuals aged under 30 living in Sussex. The annual awards scheme makes awards of about £5,000 to assist charities, groups, companies and statutory bodies throughout the UK in their work with young visually impaired people. The Edge Fund

Deadline for applications: 8 September 2014
The Edge Fund is now open for applications, following its review period.  It supports communities facing discrimination and injustice and work that aims to create systemic change. Grants of up to £5,000 are available for work carried out by individuals and small grassroots groups that creates change in society, rather than traditional support and services work and that find it difficult to get funding elsewhere. 

TRAINING

Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) Course

From 18 July, Uckfield
Coastal Wellbeing will offer a six week WRAP course for anyone who wants to create positive change in the way they feel or increase their enjoyment in life and anyone who is looking for ways to better manage their wellbeing and look after their health. Treasurer's Essentials

22 July, Uckfield
This course will look at the roles and responsibility of the treasurer and different types of accounting, help participants gain a better understanding of what financial records are and the legal aspects of accounts and familiarise people with setting and using budgets. Services Coordinators (x2) – Association of Carers

30 hour post for Eastbourne, Lewes, Seaford, Newhaven and Hailsham areas
15 hour post for Wealden and Rural Rother areas
The Association of Carers is looking for two Services Coordinators who will take referrals, carry out initial meetings and match and set up Carers with volunteers. Helping to promote the service across East Sussex, building links with other agencies and working in partnership to deliver a free, high quality services, the ideal applicants will be good at relating to a wide range of people and have excellent organisational skills. Support Worker - People Inspiring People

Deadline for applications: 11 August 2014
A male support worker required to work for a newly formed organisation called People Inspiring People that is 'Support with Confidence' approved by East Sussex County Council. The organisation aims to empower individuals to achieve their values and reach goals. The role is to support a young gentleman (22 years of age) who has autism (and a medical condition which he manages himself) in the community for 2 hours per week and to engage with social activities. Supervision will be provided after each support session and an enhanced DBS check will be carried out. Salary is £9-£10 per hour dependent on skills and experience.
