Member of the Week: Sussex Clubs for Young People

Each issue, we want to highlight the work of one of our amazing range of members across Wealden, Eastbourne and the Lewes District. This week it is the turn of Sussex Clubs for Young People (SCYP)

Established for over 70 years, Sussex Clubs for Young People are committed to developing a vibrant voluntary and community youth sector, which involves, empowers and meets the needs of young people in Sussex. They currently support over 130 youth clubs in Sussex. SCYP responds to the challenges of delivering meaningful youth work and constantly strive to provide fresh, fun and rewarding activities for the young people of Sussex. There is no annual membership fee, so even small or start-up clubs can access benefits.

WOW Exchange Live Event

This week sees the success of the WOW Exchange gather momentum with an event planned to bring together the best of East Sussex's business and charity communities. WOW has already facilitated thousands of pounds of services to the local community, so if you are looking to meet like-minded individuals who want to make a difference please come to the Sussex Exchange between 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm this Thursday, 23 October. The event is free and all are welcome. Please register online in advance. Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available.

East Sussex Better Together

Over the course of every year, the county’s four health and social care commissioning organisations (the three CCGs and the County Council) together spend around £935 million on local services. East Sussex Better Together is a programme of working together to reshape the way health and social are services are commissioned in East Sussex, so high quality, affordable care can be achieved now and for future generations.

Transforming Community Services

High Weald Lewes Havens CCG is shortly due to commence a formal procurement process in order to transform community services for local patients. You can find out more about the plans for community services on the CCG’s website.

New Space Need in Eastbourne/Hailsham/Bexhill

A new space request for a manual handling training suite has been received from East Sussex County Council as the current facilities are likely to be unavailable from November. 

Apprenticeship Opportunities

Those of you who are employers may wish to consider taking on an apprentice to train and develop them to benefit your organisation. A starting point to seeing what may be possible, and what is fundable, comes from the Sussex Council of Training Providers' website which provides information on apprenticeships for both employers, schools and young people.  You can find out about local apprenticeship vacancies and search for local training providers who offer provision within your area. Don't Miss the Bus!

East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre is a registered charity working in partnership with Adult Social Care to provide a no charge mobile information and advice service for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people living in East Sussex.  The vehicle, funded by the Big Lottery and equipped to offer demonstrations of assistive equipment and hearing screening tests (if time permits), will be visiting Wivelsfield and Newick in Lewes District on 13 November 2014. 

Listening into Action

An important date for your diary! East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust invites you to take part in a conversational event around chronic pain in Eastbourne on Thursday, 11 December 2014. If you or somebody you know has a particular interest in this area, then please contact Jeanette Williams at esh?tr.LiA@nhs.net or on 07717  737 775 to register your place at the event.

Growth Vouchers

Growth Vouchers is a Government funded initiative which offers match funding of up to £2,000 for small businesses for them to access strategic advice across one of five headings: Marketing, Digital Technology, HR, Leadership and Management or Finance. To be eligible you need to be actively trading, have fewer than 250 employees and be based in the UK – charities and community groups are all eligible. A Night at the Opera

3VA member Hearing Link invites you to join them and principal singers from Opera Holland Park for A Night at the Opera at 7:30 pm on Sunday, 9 November at the Birley Centre, Marlborough House, Old Wish Road, Eastbourne BN21 4JX. The evening will feature popular arias sung in aid of Hearing Link. Tickets are £35, which includes wine and canapés.

Wealden District Council Proposed Car Parking Order 2014

Deadline for responses: 31 October 2014
Wealden District Council's current Off Street Car Parking Order (regulations affecting the running of car parks) dates from 1990 and a new Off Street Car Parking Order was made to reflect changes in parking requirements and demands and to provide flexibility to reflect local circumstances and needs. Constructive views on the proposed Off Street Car Parking Order 2014 are now being invited

Activities, Groups and Courses for the over 55s in the Wealden Area 

Deadline for responses: 26 November 2014
Local charity and 3VA member, Engage South East, is conducting a survey to find out what activities and groups are currently available for people over 55 years of age in Wealden. The purpose of this study is to increase social opportunities and to help combat isolation and loneliness.  To share your views, please complete the form online. East Sussex Children & Young People's Plan

The East Sussex Children & Young People’s Trust (CYPT) is a partnership of public, voluntary and independent sector organisations that believe they can improve outcomes for children and young people by working together. The current Children & Young People's Plan expires at the end of 2014. The new plan will inform the shape of services for children and families in East Sussex as well as the direction of partnership working. You are invited to share your views on the ten drafted priorities to be considered for inclusion within the new plan.

FUNDING

Blagrave Trust Fund

Deadline for applications: 31 October 2014
The Blagrave Trust Fund, administered by the Sussex Community Foundation, is open for funding  applications from organisations which support children and young people to reach their full potential, including those with special needs or who are disabled. Grants of up to £25,000 per year for three years are available in this two-stage process. For more information, please contact Mary Carruthers on 01273 409440.

Triangle Trust 1949 Fund

Deadline for applications: 6 November 2014 
The Triangle Trust 1949 Fund is now accepting applications for the next round of grants from organisations working with rehabilitation of offenders or ex-offenders.  Development grants of up to £40,000 per annum for three years are available. 

Money for Life Challenge

Deadline for applications: 21 November 2014
If your organisation works with young people, then these small Money for Life Challenge grants of £500 might be of interest. They are available for groups of up to ten 16 to 24 year olds in the UK to run a project to improve money management skills in their community. The groups can be learners in further education, from work-based learning, adult community learning or training organisations and the project must focus on helping the community manage its money more effectively. A project sponsor is needed. The Challenge is also a competition with great prizes.

Wealden District Council Community Grants Programme

Deadline for applications: 30 November 2014
Wealden District Council's Community Grants Programme is now accepting applications for its Small Grant Scheme, Capital Scheme and Service Level Agreements. A limited number of 40 minute pre-application advice sessions will take place in Hailsham and Uckfield during office hours in October and early November. TRAINING

FREE Marketing and Public Relations Training

23 October, Lewes
3VA and Volunteer Centre East Sussex have worked in collaboration with Amey, a national company providing public services to communities across the country, to offer voluntary and community organisations a free, interactive Marketing and PR Training session focusing on public relations and marketing, social media, effective networking and running a successful, profit-making community organisation. The session will include master classes, mini-training, discussions and networking opportunities. Real examples of work being done across the country will be shared. Places are limited and advanced booking is required.

Emergency First Aid at Work (AOFAQ, QCF Level 2)

6 November, Eastbourne
This Emergency First Aid at Work course is for people working in low hazard environments or where a needs assessment indicates the requirement for a first aider trained in Emergency First Aid at Work. The purpose of this course is for learners to attain the knowledge and practical competences required to deal with the range of emergency first aid situations contained in this course and its aims include getting learners to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider including equipment, record keeping and basic hygiene.

Young Adults WRAP Course

Begins 10 November for six weeks, Uckfield
Sussex Oakleaf is offering this Young Adults WRAP course in partnership with Coastal Wellbeing. The course is aimed at those who wish to create positive change in the way they feel or increase their enjoyment in life. It also offers an opportunity to mix with others in a similar age group in a friendly and supportive environment. More information about the course is available online. Community Development Officer (Chances4Change) – 3VA

3VA would like to recruit a part-time temporary Community Development Officer for the Eastbourne Chances4Change project. Chances4Change works with community and voluntary groups in Eastbourne to improve the health and wellbeing of their communities. The post is 18.5 hours per week until 30 June 2015 and the successful candidate will work with the existing team to deliver this Big Lottery funded project. Development Worker – Lewes Town Partnership

The Lewes Town Partnership is seeking a part-time Development Worker. The Partnership requires an experienced individual to provide eight hours per week for development and support work. Service Co-ordinator – Sussex Interpreting Services

Clinical Supervisor - East Sussex Counselling Service – CRI

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, qualified Clinical Supervisor within an integrated drug and alcohol recovery service. CRI is seeking a Clinical Supervisor who will work alongside the Counselling Services staff and Team Leader to ensure that the Counsellors receive appropriate support, training and supervision in order to deliver an effective and recovery focused service which is aspirational for service users. The Supervisor is responsible for providing regular supervision sessions with the Counsellors using a combination model of 1-2-1 and group sessions to ensure and develop the efficacy of the Supervisor/Counsellor /Client relationships. CRI is committed to ensuring the safeguarding and wellbeing of children and adults at risk, and all applicants will be required to demonstrate understanding of and commitment to best safeguarding practice. The purpose of the Fulfilling Lives project, which is funded by the Big Lottery, is to bring about lasting change in how services work with people with multiple and complex needs. The main focus of this role is to work with people with dual diagnosis whose needs are either not being met by existing services or not accessing existing services or not being accepted as referrals with the aim of providing a transition into mainstream services. CRI is looking for someone with extensive experience either as a specialist nurse, band 6, an experienced social worker or possessing a similar professional background in a relevant field.
