‘A Workforce to get Sussex active‘ is a project focused on supporting physical activity providers in Newhaven Valley, Devonshire and Hailsham East to get more local residents physically active. One of the ways in which this project aims to support local physical activity providers is by connecting coaches and volunteers with training opportunities, including Walk Leader Training, Introduction to Marketing for Sports Organisations and Introduction to Social Media.
Workshop description
The Walk Leader training will give you an understanding of the role of a walk leader and some key skills required of a walk leader. You will also learn how to devise appropriate walking routes, manage risks, and lead a safe and enjoyable walk. Pretty much everyone agrees that walking is good for you. A walk on your own can sometimes feel great. It can also be lonely and it can feel hard to get motivated and have the confidence to get outside and walk with other people. Sometimes people experience that once there, a group walk may not feel that welcoming and the walk itself can feel too hard. So while we know that there are already some great walking groups already out there, if you are already organising walks and want some new ideas, or if you are interested in setting up, or just taking part in some (Covid compliant) local walks in the Devonshire, Hailsham East and Newhaven Valley areas then this training workshop is for you.
Your Walking Pledge
If you would like to participate in this workshop we are asking you to ‘Take a pledge’ to walk more. Simply head to Living Streets’ website to pledge and commit to taking steps to a healthier and happier you. Basically it forms part of a 4 week walking challenge – a communication package is sent weekly with ideas about how to walk more. Those who make a pledge will receive a follow up email to see if they have changed their walking habits.

How to book
This and all of these training workshops are free and to secure a place we are asking you to work towards setting up, or continuing with an activity aimed at helping local residents in the project target areas to become more physically active. To book your place on any (or all three) of the courses please complete the form and email it to Lee Shepherd at lee.shepherd@3va.org.uk. If you have any questions, please email Lee or call him on 07535 992 638.
A plea from the heart
This project is not about income generation and we know that times (for all sorts of reasons) are really hard right now. For that reason we have decided to offer these three initial training workshops free of charge. We know that we are taking something of a risk with this in that there is a possibility people might book a place and then not attend, which we would like to avoid happening. For that reason we are asking you to have a look at the workshops and if you decide you’d like to book a place on one or more of them to make a commitment to attend. So please have a good look at what’s involved with each of the workshops and if you want to book a place…we’d love to see you there.
