East Sussex College Group Governor / Co-opted Member

East Sussex College Group

Part-time

We are very keen to talk to people from East Sussex (particularly Hastings and Rother) and surrounding areas who would like to know more about being a ‘governor’ and ‘co-opted member’ of East Sussex College Group!

What will you be doing?

You might have any of the following skills sets and areas of interest:

  • financial management and controls
  • people management and HR / People & Culture activity
  • experience of working in the field of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • educational professional experience at further, higher or secondary levels
  • working in the field of special educational needs
  • health and safety and safeguarding and welfare

Or you may have none of the above but be keen to make an impact on issues such as widening access to education, enabling highly talented and motivated learners of all ages to thrive and succeed, serving communities, young and older learners and employers across East Sussex!

What difference will you make?

There are a range of organisations and stakeholders with a personal, professional, civic or financial interest in the welfare and success of a college and its learners. We are very keen to have new members from the local business economy, the local public sector and the voluntary, community and social sector.

What’s in it for the volunteer?

Being a Governor or Co-opted Member is an enriching, voluntary role, and this is a particularly exciting time to be involved with East Sussex College. As a Governor or Co-opted Member, you will make an invaluable contribution to the development of excellence in East Sussex College. As a member of the governing board, you will set the mission and strategic direction of the college, and scrutinise its performance.

Volunteering as a Governor or Co-opted Member is a great way to contribute to your local community, meet new people and improve the lives of local young people. You will develop transferrable skills and learn more about the education system whilst putting existing skills and experience to good use!

A few more details

You will join some student, staff and independent governors.
We are keen to attract interest from under-represented groups and from people with local business expertise.

Before you apply

The application process will be to send a CV and expression of interest for consideration by the Board’s Governance and Development Committee.

To find out more about how you could support the college, please refer to the Governor and Co-opted Governor role descriptions and person specification and contact:
