Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA) runs a range of projects, services and activities aimed at supporting the involvement of the whole of the community. One of these is Youth Community Development, which provides a wide range of opportunities for young people through youth clubs, wellbeing groups and 1-1 support, and supporting the Newhaven Young People’s Forum (NYPF) to deliver youth voice activities. All of these activities and services are predominantly provided at our dedicated Newhaven Youth Centre, Denton Island, as well as in local secondary schools and through detached and outreach work. Newhaven Youth Centre is a dedicated space for young people and is used to deliver a wide range of activities including music, art, mental health and wellbeing support.
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Youth Worker to become an integral part of our talented Youth team delivering of a range of generic activities and targeted services for young people. This role will lead on running two weekly wellbeing groups, three youth clubs, 1-1 support, sexual health support and supporting the NYPF. The hours of work are generally Mondays 1.30pm-7.15pm, Tuesdays 1.30pm-6.30pm, Wednesdays 4pm-8.15pm and Fridays 5.45pm-7.45pm. The session times can vary so flexibility is required.
The position is varied and involves a practical, hands-on yet boundaried approach. Strong knowledge and experience of providing person-centred information, advice and guidance to young people aged 8-18 is required, as well as a good understanding of youth mental health and wellbeing, and equality and diversity. The post holder will also be required to regularly update the Youth team’s social media pages including Facebook and Instagram.
Based in Newhaven and delivering in multiple venues in the Havens area, the post is subject to a DBS check at an enhanced level. SCDA are working according to UK government guidelines regarding Covid-19.
