Di Game in the garden after she discussed creating a set of activity packs for her Share CF Lunchclubs Eastbourne members to reduce their feeling isolated during 2020 and had just received a small grant for printing the packs from the Making it Happen team at 3VA.
We created 3 packs over the year, giving out at least 75 packs each time. The photo is of myself receiving some donations of PPE from Environment First at Eastbourne & Lewes Borough, connected to the council by the Making It Happen project.
What did you and your volunteers do?
Myself and my volunteers who would normally run 2 large lunch clubs in Eastbourne, during the pandemic instead they helped run a small supportive network for the attendees (shopping /prescriptions etc.).
We also worked with Making it Happen to get a small emergency grant to create 80 activity packs for my members who were feeling very isolated at home during the crisis. My volunteers were invaluable to the tasks and always willing to help.
How did your volunteers make a difference?
They made a huge difference to people feeling connected and not alone.
Most of my members are over the age of 70 and therefore very vulnerable to the virus. My volunteers helped to safely deliver 3 activity packs in 2020 and delivered them to people at their doors.
We also supported some people to get help with shopping, so some volunteers used their cars and drove about Eastbourne to find them what they needed. The packs were full of fun word games/puzzles, stories and helpful information about where to get support.
