Linda’s story

In the photo:

This is Linda Watson, one of Plumpton and East Chiltington Good Neighbours’ two brilliant coordinators and a cornerstone of the Good Neighbours group. She is walking in woods around Plumpton and catching a moment of rest in between visiting clients, dressed all in green and wearing her Good Neighbours ID badge.

What did your volunteer do?

Linda has worked tirelessly this last year being one of the first to volunteer with our village Covid support group as well as continuing with all her Good Neighbours commitments.

As the months progressed, she spent hours of her day going to different supermarkets to get the particular treats asked for by those shielding. As a good neighbour, Linda shops, collects prescriptions, provides company, takes people shopping, to their medical appointments for their jabs, takes pets to vets as well as continuing to care daily for her 93 year old Dad based in Brighton.

How did your volunteer make a difference?

Linda always undertakes her volunteering activities with loads of energy and a smile. Nothing is too much trouble; one wonders how she achieves so much in a day.

During the first lockdown as well as supporting GN volunteers and clients, Linda started making jams and delicious marmalades to, as she says ‘cheer people up in the village’. She had balloons and a pretty stall which was a cheering sight in the village.

Gina Hawthorne, who nominated Linda, said:

“I organised the village Covid response and Linda was my absolute go to person for problem solving and to ensure people were being cared for in the community.”
